RBG General League Information

Riverside Business Girls (RBG) is a recreational golf  league open to women who are available to golf in the evening.  Ladies night at Riverside is held every Tuesday night, starting the first week in May and running through to the end of September.  RBG have tee times reserved from 3:00 pm – 6:30 pm each Tuesday.  Members are encouraged to participate in as many regular league games as their schedule allows.  In addition there are four league tournament scheduled during the summer, as well as a number of other tournaments hosted by the club.

Fees

The cost to join RBG is $110.00 for the season.  In addition to the league, this covers your membership in the Edmonton Ladies’ Golf Association (ELGA), the Alberta Golf Association (AGA), and the Canadian Ladies’ Golf Association (CLGA).  As a member of these associations, you are eligible to play in any event they sponsor, and that you qualify for.
The fee also covers the cost of establishing a handicap, which is a requirement for all members.  You will receive a CLGA Handicap card, which you will need for any tournament play in the province.  You will also have access to Riverside’s computer system, which will track your handicap for you.  Those ladies needing to be entered into the computer or requiring assistance entering scores can speak to Pro shop staff.
This fee covers only your membership in the Riverside Business Girls club—you are responsible for your green fees each week.  Check with Pro Shop staff to obtain information about green fees for 2010 and multi-game passes.

RBG "Green Binder"

The “Green Binder” is the official scorekeeping manual for the business girls.  Be sure to enter your weekly 9 hole scores, number of putts, birdies, etc. in the green binder to track your progress over the summer.  Only the 9 holes played at Riverside on Tuesday league nights may be recorded.  At the end of the year, all of the statistics are reviewed and various scoring achievements are recognized, including total birdies, putting accomplishments and overall improvements.
The green binder is always left out each Tuesday night in the clubhouse.  If you decide to play 18 holes, the binder may be put away when you finish.  Please keep your scorecard and enter your front nine score the following week.

Establishing a Handicap

A handicap system is designed to allow golfers of all levels (beginners to advanced) to compete together on an equitable basis.  This is an allowance in strokes given to a player based on their past and current performance.  The lower your handicap, the fewer strokes you are given as an allowance.

As a beginner, your first handicap will probably be 36.  This means that when you finish playing 18 holes, you deduct 36 strokes from your score.  The total number of shots taken to complete the 18 hole round is called the gross score.  When you’ve deducted your handicap from your gross score, that number becomes your net score for the round.

If you are interested in establishing your handicap but aren’t exactly sure what you need to do, talk to one of our pros or a member of the executive about getting an account set up on the computer.  By tracking your weekly scores in the computer, you can begin to establish a handicap, which will help to determine what flight you should play in tournaments at Riverside and other courses.  To determine an accurate handicap, you need to play at least 10 full rounds of 18 holes.  If you only play golf 9 holes at a time, simply add a front nine score with a back nine score and enter it into the computer.  Scores from away courses may be entered in the computer as well: most courses in the Edmonton area are listed in the computer, if the course you’re looking for is not listed, talk to someone in the pro shop.

Break 100, 90 & 80 Pins

These are awards given to members who achieve milestones in their scores.  When you break 100, 90 or 80 for the first time, you can claim the pin that recognizes your effort.  You must have a scorecard verified by a RBG member in your group and then submit it to someone on the RBG Executive.  The scorecard will be submitted to the AGA/CLGA and you will receive the appropriate pin.  If you have already broken 100, but didn’t receive a pin, submit your scorecard the next time you do and you will receive your pin.
